What a free VIN check shows you

A free VIN check tells you which vehicle history records exist for a car before you pay for any of them. Enter a 17-character VIN and CarHistory searches insurance, salvage, title, auction, service, and motor-vehicle records across multiple national databases, then shows you what came back — how many accident records, title brands, odometer readings, and previous owners are on file.

The check itself costs nothing. There is no account to create and no card to enter; you only sign up if you decide to unlock the full report, which starts at $19.99. If we find no records at all for your VIN, your credit is refunded automatically — you are never charged for an empty report. Records are de-duplicated across sources, so you see entries that any single database on its own would miss.

No account, no cardThe check runs without signing up for anything.
No data, no chargeIf a VIN returns no records at all, your credit is refunded automatically.
Multiple national sourcesInsurance, salvage, title, auction, service, and motor-vehicle records.
Some vehicles have thinner recordsCars imported from another country, some fleet and commercial vehicles, and very old cars may have limited coverage in the databases that feed reports — the VIN can be valid while the history is sparse. The free check tells you before you pay, and if a report comes back with no records at all your credit is refunded automatically. Why a VIN returns no data →

CarHistory is an independent service. Reports are compiled from insurance, salvage, title, auction, and motor-vehicle records, and are not a substitute for a professional inspection.
